Energia Group Reinforces Commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals

Energia Group has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability with clear progress aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, showcasing tangible impact across gender equality, clean energy, inclusive economic growth, innovation, community resilience, and climate action.

As part of our strategic framework, the Group continues to embed ESG principles across all operations, driving meaningful change in the transition to a low-carbon, inclusive economy. With a workforce of over 1,100 people across the island of Ireland, we're delivering on our commitment to create a more equitable and sustainable future.

At the core of the Group’s social strategy is a deepened focus on SDG 5 Gender Equality. Initiatives such as inclusive workplace policies supporting pregnancy loss, fertility treatment, and menopause are part of the broader culture of care and inclusion. The Group has launched a Women in Energy Network and partnered with Riley to provide free period products in offices, enhancing workplace wellbeing for the Group’s female employees. These measures are underpinned by a broader commitment to leadership diversity and the Business in the Community Elevate pledge.

On the environmental front, Energia Group is accelerating the delivery of SDG 7 or Affordable and Clean energy. Through continued investment in offshore and onshore wind, solar energy, and battery storage, we're expanding our renewable energy footprint and supporting Ireland’s transition to a net-zero economy. Consumer education, microgeneration services, and prosumer engagement are reinforcing this effort, ensuring customers are equipped to play an active role in sustainable energy usage.

The Group also remains committed to SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth by investing in inclusive hiring and development practices, promoting health and safety standards, and maintaining high-quality employment conditions. These efforts are supported by diversity-led recruitment and ongoing professional development across all roles.

Accelerating SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure remains central to Energia Group’s approach, with ambitious plans to triple our renewable electricity generation by 2030. Capital projects now integrate sustainability, resilience, and community benefit from the ground up, while partnerships to support the rollout of electric vehicles are removing barriers to clean transportation. Local procurement and employment programmes further reflect the Group’s efforts to embed value in the communities they serve.

Energia Group’s dedication to SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities is also evident in our ongoing support of the national power grid and efficient operation of Huntstown power station, which helps ensure security of supply while enabling greater integration of renewable energy.

Community engagement begins early in the lifecycle of every development, ensuring local needs are met and impacts are carefully managed. Support for cultural heritage projects and tools to enhance home and office energy efficiency also contribute to wider urban sustainability goals.

Under SDG 13 Climate Action, Energia Group has committed to reducing the carbon intensity of our electricity generation by 50% by 2030. We conduct ongoing climate risk assessments and support policies that promote carbon pricing and emissions trading. Additionally, we are investing in educational programmes that equip the next generation to take climate action forward.

Energia Group’s alignment with the SDGs is not symbolic – it is structural, measurable, and ongoing. With clear milestones already achieved and ambitious targets ahead, we continue to power change – energised for a better world.
