Friday 24th November 2023: Local people from the County Monaghan village of Newbliss wrapped up warm to come out and celebrate the traditional Christmas light switch-on event, which this year was sponsored by Energia Renewables and Drumlins Park Wind Farm.

Energia’s wind farm construction team funded new energy-efficient LED Christmas lights and the traditional Senior Citizens’ Christmas lunch, which is organised by the local Killeevan Development Association to bring older members of the community together.

Commenting on the new street lights, Energia Renewables Head of Construction, Patrick Tierney, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the local community in Newbliss. We’ve made great progress on site and I and the rest of the construction team would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we were carrying out overnight deliveries.

“Being able to provide energy efficient LED bulbs for the Christmas lights to reduce energy usage and costs is a great way to end the year and we look forward to continuing to engage with the community. On behalf of the Drumlins Park Wind Farm construction team, we would like to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year.”

Speaking about the start of the festivities with the annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas lunch, Mickey Quigley, Chair of the Killeevan Development Association, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who’s come out tonight to see the Christmas lights and I’d particularly like to thank all those who’ve been helping to prepare for the annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas lunch.  It’s great to have it back in our calendar.

“I’d also like to thank Energia Renewables for sponsoring the lunch and funding the new LED lights. We’ve all become acutely aware of climate change and the impact it is having on our environment.  The time to reduce our carbon footprint is now and I have no doubt that the Drumlins Park Wind Farm will play a significant role in helping to achieve this.”
