Power NI leading the way in decarbonisation of NI ports.
Power NI, on behalf of Energia Group, is delighted to lead the Northern Ireland Green Seas partnership which will help facilitate the introduction of zero-emissions vessels travelling the globe by investigating solutions for the onshore energy infrastructure required to power these vessels.
Power NI is proud to be the lead partner in the Northern Ireland Green Seas project. With the support of our partners, the Department of Transport and Innovate UK, the ultimate aim of the project is to power zero emission vessels with renewable electricity. The upcoming feasibility study will focus on three areas in Northern Ireland – Belfast Harbour, Bangor Marina and Rathlin Island – to determine the best decarbonisation strategy for these three locations, by incorporating renewable resources, specifically hydrogen and battery storage. This project will help to put Northern Ireland back at the forefront of the shipping industry.
The NI Green Seas project is also an exciting opportunity for collaboration with our partners in innovation, NIE Networks, Belfast Harbour, Queens University.
